NatHERS thermal modelling for a 970-unit Sydney apartment development.
Location: Sydney, Australia
Project Type: Multi-Residential Apartment Development
Scale: Approximately 970 Apartments
Energy Rating: 7-Star NatHERS
Overview
We were involved in the energy assessment and thermal modelling of a large residential apartment development in Sydney consisting of approximately 970 residential units. Large apartment developments require careful analysis of building orientation, glazing distribution, and façade performance to ensure strong energy efficiency outcomes.
Project Description
Multi-residential buildings present unique thermal modelling challenges because each apartment can face different directions and experience varying levels of solar exposure. For this project, our team performed detailed NatHERS thermal modelling to evaluate the building envelope and identify opportunities to improve energy performance.
Key areas of analysis included window performance, insulation levels, glazing distribution, and natural ventilation strategies. By carefully optimising these elements, we were able to help the design team improve thermal comfort while maintaining the architectural intent of the project.
The final modelling outcome achieved a 7-Star NatHERS rating, demonstrating strong energy performance across a large residential development.
