NatHERS modelling for Brisbane hillside duplex development.
Location: Brisbane, Queensland
Project Type: Duplex Residential Development
Site Condition: Sloped Hillside Terrain
Overview
This duplex project located in the hillside areas of Brisbane presented unique design challenges due to its three-storey configuration and sloped terrain.
Project Description
Buildings constructed on sloped sites often experience variations in solar exposure, shading, and ventilation between different floor levels. Our team conducted detailed NatHERS thermal modelling to evaluate the performance of the building envelope across all levels of the duplex.
The modelling considered glazing performance, insulation strategies, natural ventilation pathways, and solar exposure for each level of the building. Through several modelling iterations, we were able to identify improvements that enhanced the building’s thermal efficiency while maintaining the architectural design.
Despite the complexity of the hillside site and multi-storey layout, the final modelling achieved a strong energy rating, demonstrating that challenging sites can still achieve excellent sustainability outcomes.
